Akademicheskaya Hotel

Standing only five minutes’ walk from Moscow's famous Gorky Park, just to the south of the central Garden Ring, the Akademicheskaya is a large Soviet-era hotel offering reasonably comfortable but fairly basic standard accommodation, currently at rather high rates.

Built in 1972 as a hostel for guests of the Academy of Sciences, the Akademicheskaya has undergone some renovation and now offers a mixture of older standard rooms and better renovated accommodation, with 320 guest rooms and suites in total. The hotel now has free WiFi access throughout the property. Although the hotel offers little in the way of leisure facilities, it does have a fully equipped business center with two conference halls to host meetings and large-scale corporate events. The on-site restaurant offers reasonable Russian and European fare, but is also not cheap.

Located at the southern edge of the historic Zamoskvorechye district, the Akademicheskaya provides easy access to many of Moscow's major attractions via metro, with Red Square and the Kremlin only a couple of stops away. As well as Gorky Park (the First Park of Culture and Leisure), other sights of interest within walking distance of the Akademicheskaya Hotel include the Tretyakov Gallery's 20^th century collection in the Central House of Artists, which also has a sculpture park that is home to several toppled Soviet monuments.
