The Aquarium Hotel is located on the grounds of Crocus Expo, beyond the Moscow Ring Road, so it should come as no surprise that there are no visitor attractions in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. However, for guests searching for some entertainment without making the long trek into the centre of Moscow, there are a few sights of interest a short taxi ride from the hotel.
The Museum of the History of the Russian Navy, about 8 km from the Aquarium Hotel on the banks of the Moskva River, has a huge collection of uniforms and insignia, model ships, and parts of naval technology. The main attractions, however, are the B-396 diesel submarine docked by the museum and the A-90 Orlyonok ekranoplan or ground effect vehicle, an exotic piece of Soviet technology that can (in theory) glide over any surface at a height of about 20 meters. Sadly, the example at the museum is not in working order. Across the river from the museum you will be able to see the beautiful Moscow River Station, which combines Stalinist neoclassicism with the lines of a river steamboat.
The Aquarium Hotel is located 10 km away from the estate of Arkhangelskoye, once the home of Prince Nikolai Yusupov, Russia's biggest landowner, renowned for his epicurean tastes and his vast art collection. The fine neoclassical palace and beautiful landscape gardens are slowly being restored to their former glory, and many works from Yusupov's collections are now on display.
