There is only one major attraction near the Los Hotel. Losiny Ostrov (Elk Island) National Park is a 12,000 hectare wooded area and one of the oldest parks in Russia. It was created on land which was previously royal hunting grounds and boasts a staggering variety of wildlife. This protected status means that you can find wildlife here that is difficult to see unless you are willing to brave the Russian wilderness. Unfortunately, much of the park is closed to the public but access is possible through guided excursions such as horseback tours. Venturing into the ‘wilder’ portions of the park is a way to capture some of the incredible enormity of the vastness of the Russian state.
