The Marco Polo Presnja Hotel is situated in one of Moscow's most attractive central districts, a short walk from the Patriarch's Ponds, a charming boating lake made famous in Mikhail Bulgakov's Master and Margarita - there is a monument to Bulgakov nearby.
Also close to the hotel, Pushkinskaya Ploshchad ("Pushkin Square") is home to Moscow's most famous monument to the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, as well as the first McDonald's in the country (and once the largest in the world). From there it is a shortish walk down Tverskaya Ulitsa, Moscow's main central thoroughfare, to Red Square.
Walking in the opposite direction from the hotel will bring you to Nikitskiy Bulvar, where you will find the neoclassical Greater Church of the Ascension, as well as the beautiful Art Nouveau mansion that houses the Maxim Gorky Memorial Museum, and the Museum of Oriental Art. Further down the boulevard is a memorial to the author Nikolay Gogol, who died nearby, and eventually you will come to the beginning of Arbat, Moscow's popular pedestrian precinct, famous for its street performers and souvenir market.
