Although there are no visitor attractions in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, there are several interesting sights from the Soviet period close to VDNKh Metro Station, centered around the All-Russian Exhibition Centre (VVTs or VDNKh, as it used to be known), an extraordinary park of exotic pavilions, monuments and fountains that was built as a showcase for the fruits of Soviet industry and agriculture.
At the entrance to the park stands the titanium Space Obelisk showing a rocket blasting into space on a 100 meter tall plume of metallic smoke. It was build in 1964 to commemorate Yury Gagarin’s first orbit of the planet. It houses a great museum to Soviet/Russian Cosmonautics.
The Maxima Slavia is also right next to Losiny Ostrov (Elk Island) National Park, a 12 000 hectare tract of land on what used to be royal hunting grounds, a vast wilderness with an extraordinary array of flora and fauna.
