Peking Hotel
We stayed at this hotel for five nights in May and it comes highly recommended. The rooms are spacious, very clean and stylish. The location is excellent and with breakfast included (which was also great), it offers great value for money. Even if you are not into Soviet design, this hotel is a hidden gem and I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Moscow.

Location is the great thing about the Peking Hotel. For this position in Moscow, the value is good. There are some disadvantages with very direct service and expensive WiFi, but clean and comfortable room and breakfast with tasty pancakes. Walking to the Red Square is easy, and nearby there is much of interest. Also, for beer lovers, I enjoyed several pints in the Pilsner bar - turn left out of the hotel and cross the main road.

I liked this hotel when we first stayed here five years ago, although my wife says that's my perverted affection for all things Soviet. Certainly there was a lot that needed improvement in terms of service and cleanliness, although the combination of Soviet style and slightly seedy atmosphere was what I loved. When I came back to the Peking last month I was amazed at how much better it had got. The lobby's been beautifully renovated, and my room was plain but very comfortable. Happy to say that the place's character hasn't been destroyed either. There's still the wonderful statue of Mayakovsky just round the corner, too.
