It is possible to walk from the President Hotel to the Moscow Kremlin, undoubtedly the city's biggest visitor attraction, in around 20 minutes. It is a similar distance to the renowned Tretyakov Gallery, which contains superbly displayed collections throughout the ages. The museum's 20th century collections, including several masterpieces from the avant garde of the 1910s and 1920s, are in fact housed almost right next to the hotel at 10, Krymsky Val, and are well worth visiting. Next to the exhibition hall is Moscow's Sculpture Park, originally a refuge for the toppled monuments of Soviet icons, which have now been joined by an idiosyncratic collection of contemporary sculptures. Right opposite the museum are the imposing main gates to Gorky Park, the first Soviet "Park of Leisure and Culture", which is now mostly taken up with and old funfair and other gaudy amusements.
Also within a short walk of the hotel are the splendid Church of St. John the Warrior (48, Bolshaya Yakimanka), built to honor Peter the Great's victory over the Swedes at Poltava in 1709, and the older and equally charming Church of St. Grigory the Neocaesarean (29a, Bolshaya Polyanka), undoubtedly one of Moscow's most beautiful churches.
