Although the area directly surrounding the hotel is mostly occupied by government buildings and modern business developments, it is just a short walk across the Moscow River to Arbat, Moscow's celebrated pedestrian precinct, which was once the bohemian heart of the city and continues to attract visitors and locals with its thriving street life and copious open-air bars and cafes.
On your way there, you cross the recently built Bogdan Khmelnitskiy Pedestrian Bridge, and pass the spectacular Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the second-largest of the "Seven Sisters", the Stalinist skyscrapers that dominate the Moscow skyline.
Kievsky Vokzal (Kiev Station), right next to the hotel, is architecturally one of the most impressive in Moscow, with a particularly notable roof covering the platform, designed by the great Russian civil engineer Viktor Shukhov.
