Komsomolskaya Ploshchad is popular known as "the Square of Three Stations" in Moscow. An elongated space to the north-east of the downtown, it is the site of three of Moscow's busiest mainline stations: Leningrad Station, which serves nearly all trains to/from St. Petersburg, as well as international services to Helsinki and Tallinn; Kazan Station, for trains to central-southern Russia and Central Asia; and Yaroslavl station, from where services head east to the Urals, Siberia and Beijing. Apart from the obvious and excellent option of the Hilton Moscow Leningradskaya at the western end of the square, there are a few other hotels in the vicinity worth considering.

Located in the smallest of the Seven Sisters, the spectacular Stalin-era neo-gothic skyscrapers that dominate the Moscow skyline, the Hotel Leningradskaya was a seedy hole until it was taken over by Hilton and completely reinvented as a modern five-star property with full business and leisure facilities. What historic charm the building had, including its magnificent lobby area, has been preserved and enhanced in reconstruction, and the hotel not only offers the most convenient access to the three mainline railway stations, but also one of Moscow's most characterful and striking historic hotels. »»»

This recently renovated small hotel is located very close to Komsomolskaya Ploshchad, although it actually takes around 15 minutes to walk to the hotel around the railway tracks. Aspiring to deluxe standards, the Mandarin offers 112 plushly fitted rooms and suites, as well as a very stylish restaurant and bar. There is little else in the way of facilities or amenities, and the location is not the most attractive (although the hotel's own building is a pretty 19th century mansion). Nonetheless, for comfortable and elegant accommodation at moderate rates, the Mandarin is worth considering. »»»

Around ten minutes' walk from Komsomolskaya Ploshchad, this unassuming hotel occupying two 1980s apartment blocks is one of the best-value accommodation options in the downtown area, and certainly well worth considering for families or small groups looking for low-cost accommodation near the three mainline railway stations. Nearly all apartments at the Volga have good self-catering facilities, and all are spacious, clean and simply decorated in an attractive modern style. Amenities at the hotel are fairly basic, but include table tennis, billiards, and a children's playground. »»»
