The Rossiya is a Hotel of contrasts- good accomodation/rooms with fabulous views. Food in the Hotel owned restaurants at best mediocre (I don't recommend breakfast- unless you like cold cauliflower) with disinterested waitresses who seem more interested in chewing gum than serving their customers. (But try the fairly new car themed restaurant on the NW corner of the Hotel- a complete contrast- excellent food and service at a very reasonable price. But hurry, Moscow News reports that the Rossiya is to be demolished starting July 2005.Peter Marston

Stayed in the Rossia for a few nights in Februray 1999, in an unrefurbished room looking into the courtyard. The most depressing view imaginable. Did battle with five cockroaches on arrival. Prostitutes wandering up and down corridors at all hours. However: cheap, very pleasant staff, location unbeatable. Bravo Rossia. If you don't mind cockroaches.Bill Cunningham

We had a renovated room with Kremlin view for 5 days ... it was fantastic. The hotel was perfect for sightseeing ... near everything including Metro stations. Waking up overlooking St. Basil's Cathedral and the Kremlin was special. Nothing fancy about this hotel, but it had everything we needed and more. In fact, got a GREAT haircut here while we were there! 24 hr. corner room cafe's were handy ... ground floor casinos were handy ... all in all, a highly recommended venue.PAT HALL

We stayed in a renovated room on the 10th floor with amazing panoramic views of the Kremlin. Comfortable beds, pristine bed linen and a spotlessly clean room with everything we needed. Everything worked, including the air conditioning, so we were surprised to find that it was very easy to open the large windows. Very dangerous if you have children with you. We found the food and drink in the hotel very expensive, paying 4 for a cup of coffee in one bar and an extra 3 for a little milk to add to our coffee in another. The Muscovites have a very low opinion of this hotel but don't be put off by this. Make sure you book a renovated room with a view of the Kremlin, be assertive at reception and look for cheaper places to eat and drink in the vicinity of the hotel.Christine Dean

We stayed in the Rossiya hotel for 4 nights in Sept 05. Very large & impressive hotel, very clean basic bedrooms, best possible location for walking about Moscow, superb views over Red Square & the river. The staff in the Impressive reception areas, are very unfriendly & unhelpful compared to the rest of the people in Mosow. I wouldn't recommend this hotel for anyone with young children as the windows are opened completely to one foot from the floor, very dangerous, its a long way down. The food in the 24 cafe's situated in the corners of the hotel are very reasonable in price & taste, don't use the one in reception they triple the price.Margaret Spark

I was so fortunate to be part of a Trans Siberian Tour in July 2004.My husband and I were allotted a room on the 11th floor overlooking the Kremlin and Red Square.I have nothing but the highest praise for your accomodation and the entire service we recieved. It was unfortunate that as I sprained a leg muscle, I had to spend two days laid up. How I enjoyed those MAGNIFICIENT views !!! Thank you one and all.thomas marshall

Excellent!!
First thoughts were that this hotel was a bit intimidating, a large queue at check in, and ended up having to push and shove forward,(other wise I would never have got service) whole process took about an hour. Perhaps arrived at a bad time though. Room was excellent, very clean, and a view of St Basils and red square was AMAZING. Pretty cool listening to the sound of the Kremlin Bells at night (make sure you pay from a Red Square view, it really is worth it) Food in the hotel was excellent with a variety of restaurants, if you want to spend about 10 Euro and have excellent steaks and fries, or pork fillet and salad eat here. I would rate the meals in the Rossija the best of all my holidays. Good thing about the Hotel is if you dont want to brave Moscow streets late at night, there is a variety of shops on site, for your alcohol, and Food needs, Souvenirs too. Security is strict which is good, persons are not allowed into the lifts without presenting their room pass to the security guard. I would easily say this is the best Hotel I have ever stayed in on numerous trips across Europe and the USAthomas marshall

great hotel, first impressions on arrival in my (probaly illegal) Lada taxi, scary! A massive Soviet Style block of concrete, we actually saw the hotel about 15 minutes befoe we got to the front door! Thats Moscow Traffic! Reception can be mad, when I arrived there were a lot of Italian Tourists there and the staff were basically shouting at those without the right paperwork. I had to push to the front of the queue, picked the least frightening looking receptionish ( actually a pretty looking blonde )She could not find our reservation, but after about 10 mimutes she did (and ok with a bit of a smile) The room on floor 11 was brilliant, a view of the Kremlin to die for, it realy was unreal!!! Overall a very good and safe hotel, they dont let strangers in, you have to show your room key before you get into the lifts. The bars were very good though Vodka is expensive even by western standards (though when sitting over looking red square you seem to forget) The food in the hotel was EXCELLENT tooPeter Reduch

Hi, I stayed at the Hotel Rossiya for one night on the 28th August 2004, in a renovated single room on the 9th floor overlooking the Moscow River. What a marvellous view. I was very happy with my room, and I enjoyed the buffet style breakfast. I found the staff friendly and courteous and I have no hesitation in staying here once again in the very near future........PeterDirk Dewulf

Always ask for a room 'Kremlin-view'.
It is the best view you can imagine, like you are in a fairy tale. The view is breath-taking, you are with your nose on the Basilius cathedral and the Red Square. Everything is nearby at walking distance, and the metro is close as well. Service is perhaps not always 100% (difficulty of languages) but most of the staff do an effort. Food is OK. Certainly "best buy" of town.Alan Dorrity

Stayed at the Hotel Rossiya in June 2004, wow what a splendid choice it was too. Not only does this hotel employ some of Moscow's most beautiful ladies in the bars and restaurants, but the views are amazing, accross the Krasniya Ploshad or (Red Sq) but the opportunity to see sights that you only dream about seeing on TV. Russians are amazingly friendly and patient people, the sights and sounds are wonderful and would recommend the hotel to anyone, it is only an underpass that seperates you from Res Sq. A short metro ride to Tver or Gorky. And a reasonable work from Theatre Square and the arbat. The food is much nicer in the little food places above the hotel reception and would not recommend the paid food option. Have a great stay Alan Dorrity Liverpool United KingdomB Schilke

I stayed in Hotel Rossiya for two nights and was pleased with the stay. Opting for the standard room to keep costs down on a very expensive trip deep into the "Russian Motherland", I was still happy with the accomodations. My room was a 6th story view over the river and at night when the whole city lit up, I could see right down the river and it was so beautiful. Out the huge bow window, I could see the Kremlin and other sights in Moscow too and it was gorgeous. GREAT views from the restaurant on the top-top floor, don't miss it for anything! Food was pretty cheap, and with cafes on many floors, convenient too. The TV's were a little difficult to use, you have to hold down the power button while you push a channel for it to turn on - it took me a while and a few questions of other helpful travelers to figure that out. I definitely recommend Hotel Rossiya to anyone traveling to Russia - I loved my stay and Moscow is one of the most beautiful and amazing cities you can visit - this just adds to the trip!!Ken Hutchison

I stayed at The Rossiya Hotel in September 2003 for one week and was fortunate to be there during the Moscow birthday celebrations. My girlfriend and I had a renovated room on the 12th floor overlooking Red Square and The Kremlin. The service in the hotel was 1st class and the coffee shop just a few metres down the corridor from our room was perfect for that quiet tet-a-tet. The highlight of the week was watching the open air concerts in Red Square from out vantage point and when the fireworks started to burst, what felt like, right outside our (huge) window, it certainly made the holiday. I heard recently that The Rossiya is (sadly) to be knocked down and another hotel built in its place. I only hope that the new one will be just half as good.lynn baxter

Our first trip to Moscow 5 years ago found us staying at the Rossiya. The hotel and city left a lasting impression and we returned every year for the next 5! The renovated rooms are comfortable, clean and have great views on all 4 sides - but the best view is undoubtedly of the Kremlin/Red Square (especially in winter). Very reasonably priced and central to everything.John Pischedda

I stayed in a renovated double room
with Kremlin view for 5 nights in June 04. While not as fancy and plush as some of the more expensive hotels, the location was unbeatable and the view was absolutely amazing. The room was clean, the staff friendly and the price was excellent. I will definitely consider staying there again for future visits to Moscow.Mark Balich

stayed in a double renovated room with a Kremlin view-
and what a view it was! the windows were huge, and it looked like we had a giant poster of red square on the wall- really made the trip! it is right next to the metro also, so you can get to anywhere else in Moscow in a matter if minutes, friendly staff (well, as friendly as staff gets in Russia I suppose) and the rooms were always made up very clean and tidy every day. Very convienient to have a cafe right on our floor too! food was good, and prices fair compared to other restaraunts in the area. I highly recommend this hotel- and I will definately be staying there again when I return to Moscow.Bill Burrows

I stayed at the Rossiya for 3 nights in May 2002. The rooms were great (I stayed in the "renovated rooms". They had refrigerators in the room, towel warmers, and they were very clean. Like nearly every other business in Russia, customer service is non-existent. The help was often indifferent and too willing to take advantage of the language barrier to make a little extra pocket money. The rooms were noisy and it was very easy to get lost in the monster Soviet-era building. I will say this though, that it is probably the best location in Moscow. It is directly across the street from Red Square and walking distance to a lot of great attractions (make sure you go to Old Arbat Street to buy your souvenirs).Nis Larrsson
