Just around the corner from the hotel stand the imposing pillars and stucco facade of the celebrated Bolshoy Theatre, gem of Moscow's performing arts scene and home to the world-renowned Bolshoy Ballet. With a history dating back to 1776, the Bolshoy is one of the world’s greatest musical theaters, and is busy restoring its mighty reputation after a brief lull in the nineties.
The Maly Theatre, Moscow's premier Drama Theatre, has a history almost as rich as the Bolshoy's, and was once directed by the great 19th century playwright Alexander Ostrovsky. Although of less interest to non-Russian speakers, it is still a major cultural institution, and a beautiful building.
Just around the corner from the Savoy Hotel on Lubyanskaya Ploshchad, the Lubyanka is the notorious former headquarters and prison of the KGB. Opposite, the Solovetsky Stone is a ten-ton rock of granite from the Solovetsky Islands in the White Sea, a memorial to the prisoners of the Gulag system erected in 1990.

| On Foot: | The trip will take 10-15 minutes. When you exit the hotel, turn right on Ulitsa Rozhdestvenka and right again onto Teatralny Proyezd. Continue straight on past the Metropol Hotel and the Bolshoi Theatre until you reach Tverskaya Ulitsa. Use the underpass to cross to the left onto Manezhnaya Ploshchad, then cross the square diagonally and turn right between the Manezh Exhibition Centre and the Alexander Garden. | On Foot: | The walk to the square will take less than ten minutes. When you exit the hotel, turn right on Ulitsa Rozhdestvenka and right again onto Teatralny Proyezd. Use the underpass in front of the Bolshoi Theatre to cross towards the Metropol Hotel, and then bear left past the small park and across Ploshchad Revolyutsii until you see the archways of the Resurrection Gate on your left.
