The Sayany Hotel is right next to Losiny Ostrov (Elk Island) National Park, home to more than 200 species of animal. There are a number of recreational and educational tours of the park on offer, including horse riding.
A short bus ride from the hotel, the All-Russian Exhibition Centre (VVTs or VDNKh, as it used to be known) is an extraordinary park of exotic pavilions, monuments and fountains that was built as a showcase for the fruits of Soviet industry and agriculture in the Stalin era.
At the entrance to the park stands the titanium Space Obelisk showing a rocket blasting into space on a 100 meter tall plume of metallic smoke. It was built in 1964 to commemorate Yury Gagarin’s first orbit of the planet. It houses a great museum to Soviet/Russian Cosmonautics.
