The hotel's name is dues to the fact that the surrounding area is dominated by the central campus of Moscow State University on the Sparrow Hills. One of the Stalinist neo-Gothic skyscrapers known as the "Seven Sisters", the University is among Moscow's most famous landmarks. This is a great example of Moscow’s post-war rise to glory. For almost 40 years, it was the tallest building in Europe. While the interior is closed to visitors, it's worth strolling through the green surroundings, and visiting the plateau in front of the building, famous for its ensemble of fountains and its superb views across downtown Moscow.
